Lock(e), Carter, Campbell, Jewell, Bailey, Hite, Ruffin, Short.
Lock(e), Carter, Campbell, Jewell, Bailey are well known British
Romany / Gypsy surnames.
So as far as the Eurpean men in this project goes, it appears they are all Romany / Gypsy descendants of Europe.
