Project Background
A group of Wingo Family Researchers were very active in the 1980-1998 time period. They started with the three sons of the John Wingo that died in Amelia County Virginia in 1755. His three sons were Thomas, William and James. Several grandsons of Thomas moved to Spartanburg County, South Carolina after the Revolutionary War. These early researchers developed a pretty good paper trail for these grandsons and for several of the grandsons that remained in Virginia but in some cases there was no existing documentation to prove family membership.
Additional documentation is being gathered by a number of present day Wingo Family Genealogists. This information is coming from sources that are more difficult to locate or that are only now being made available for research.
