There seems to be several origins for the surname 'Wilde' and related names, and many of these also may be related through ancient migrations not historically recorded. The initial origins seem to be German or of the Netherlands, and some of these peoples migrated to England, Ireland, Wales, and other places... later migrations to the US, Australia and other new world locations followed. Several initiatives have been underway using standard genealogical techniques, to establish family origins and relationships. Many of these are stalled after only a few generations of records.

The usage of DNA is now being employed to extend and connect these lineages to origins both historical and ancient.
