About us

For Goal #1: Obtain and post Y-DNA samples of persons with the surname of WASH
------------
As of Feb 2010, three persons with the surname WASH have posted their results on either this website or on www.Ysearch.org. Several others in the U.S. and in England have been invited to order Y-DNA tests, but no new tests have yet to be ordered.

As of Feb 2010, three persons with the surname LANDERS have posted their results on either this website or on www.Ysearch.org.

For Goal #2: Determine which person pairs having a WASH or LANDERS surname have small genetic distances with each other and then attempt to determine a Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) for each pair.
------------
Based on posted Y-DNA results at www.Ysearch.org, the following persons have a genetic distance of 6 or less with the project administrator (H2BN5) who has traced his paternal line back to Louisa Co and Hanover Co in Virginia during the 1700's.

The genetic distances based on FTDNA Y-67 tests are:
H2BN5 (Wash) and UKPSW (Landers) is 1 (0 per Y-37 tests)
H2BN5 (Wash) and 67DVJ (Landers) is 2 (0 per Y-37 tests)
H2BN5 (Wash) and W76B7 (Wash) is 2 (1 per Y-37 tests)
H2BN5 (Wash) and 94HT4 (Wash) is 5 (3 per Y-37 tests)
W76B7 (Wash) and 94HT4 (Wash) is 5 (4 per Y-37 tests)
W76B7 (Wash) and UKPSW (Landers) is 1 (1 per Y-37 tests)
W76B7 (Wash) and 67DVJ (Landers) is 2 (1 per Y-37 tests)
UKPSW (Landers) and 67DVJ (Landers) is 1 (0 per Y-37 tests)
94HT4 (Wash) and UKPSW (Landers) is 4 (3 per y-37 tests)
94HT4 (Wash) and 67DVJ (Landers) is 5 (3 per Y-37 tests)

The genetic distances based on FTDNA Y-37 tests are:
H2BN5 (Wash) and XREN9 (Landers) is 3
H2BN5 (Wash) and 9XD4H (Howell) is 6
W76B7 (Wash) and XREN9 (Landers) is 2
94HT4 (Wash) and XREN9 (Landers) is 4
67DVJ/UKPSW (Landers) and XREN9 (Landers) is 3

All of the above have been in contact since obtaining the test results, except for 9XD4H, and are sharing family histories with each other. At this time no Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) has been established for any of the WASH pairs.

Kimbrough LANDERS who lived in Louisa Co Virginia in the 1700s has been identified as the shared MCRA for all three LANDERS: 67DVJ (Landers), UKPSW (Landers), and XREN9 (Landers). Even though all three share the same MRCA of Kimbrough LANDERS, the fact that XREN9 (Landers) has a genetic distance of 3 with the other two Landers participants is partially explained by the fact that two of the three different markers are markers known to have very high mutation rates. Furthermore, XREN9 is 7 generations away from Kimbrough Landers, while 67DVJ is only 6 generations away, and UKPSW is only 5 generations away.

For Goal #3: Determine if the LANDERS paternal line is an offshoot of the WASH paternal line (or vice versa) and whether it was due to a name change, adoption, or other non-paternity reasons.
