About us

The research that led to this project is based on my own family questions. My line descends from 3 possible surnames, Vauban, Blanchard and Carlton, thru my G-Grandmothers relationships in the 1875-1890's era. Her 1st marriage was to Louis Vauban in 1875, who appears to have died in France in 1897. My g-grandmother had 9 children between 1879-1899, sometime before 1900 she married/lived with, a Carleton/Carlton man whose family had legally changed their name from Blanchard to Carlton back in 1832, in Somerset, Maine. All the children took the Carlton Surname. Our family does not know for sure which children were Vaubans and which were Blanchard/Carltons, and some believe that Carlton was the original surname, though the paper trail does not support that. This research began as a possible way to prove the family bloodline once and for all.
