Project Background
The Thornton surname Y-Chromosome DNA test project was started in June of 2003 in order to see if DNA mapping of Thornton males combined with traditional genealogical research could help sort out the Thomas, Luke and William Thornton’s who seem to be everywhere you look in early Virginia records. We also hope to see if we can break through some of the Thornton brick walls that are out there and connect those lines into known Thornton lineages or prove that they don't connect.
The success of our Project will depend on the number of participants who join our testing group, as well the documentation of the research connected with each line regarding dates and locations of birth, death, marriage, etc.
