About us

My husband's name is George Wilmar Wambaugh, Jr. and we were born and raised in Baltimore. We have researched his relatives in York, PA for several years and hope to look at the Y-DNA of other Wambaugh males. Through this study, we hope to search for the most common male Y-DNA ancestor for this rare surname. WAMBAUGH, WAM/NBOUGH, WAM/NBACH/K, WAMBOLD and any other reasonable spelling variations are welcome to join the project. Only males have Y-chromosomes, so only males with these surnames or variant can participate. To meaningfully participate, testees will need to share their direct male line ancestry back to the earliest known WAMBAUGH or variant and their place of birth, if known. The process is simple, just click on the link in this message and order a test kit. You will receive directions with swabs and a return envelope. It is so simple, you just swab the inside of your cheek with the wands and are told how to complete the testing. When your tests are complete, you will receive an e mail from FamilyTreeDNA and with a link to your own website for your DNA. Also you will be joining the WAMBAUGH Y-DNA Study. Get in on this amazing, cutting edge technology and perhaps, we can finally find out the source of this unusual name. For my husband, George W. Wambaugh, Jr., his earliest ancestor lived and farmed in York, PA. On the census, he said he was from Germany. Hope to see you on the list.
