Project Background:
My immigrant ancestor, Johann Heinrich Strohrmann, was born in Uchte, Lower Saxony in 1810. He emigrated to America in 1838 from Hamburg to Baltimore. He moved to Louisville, KY and married Maria Adelheit Söhnker of Bersenbrück, Lower Saxony in 1842. He was a hat maker/manufacturer in Louisville, KY at the Hats and Caps (Hütten und Kappen) store. He died in 1882. Before that, this Strohrmann family lived in Liebenau, Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen) and some nearby villages, Diepholz, Nienburg(Weser), Rehburg, Am Stolzenau, Lemförde, Bücken, Warmsen, Lavelsloh, etc. The oldest Strohrmann ancestor I have found is Johann Strohrmann born about 1600 in Liebenau and died about 1667, also in Liebenau.
