Project Goals:
To identify Stewart lines who have common ancestors as an aid to genalogy research, including all spellings or variations of the surname Stewart. The Sample for extracting the DNA is a simple cheek cell swab, no blood required !

Project News:
Our most recent match was an unexpected match between two descendants who trace back to Charles Stewart born 1610. It is important to note that these two descendants did not know each other prior to the DNA testing and so this match was a total surprise to both of them. They are working toward nailing down the details of their relationship now. It is nice to be able to work toward Charles Stewart b 1610 and know that many of the other Stewarts in that area have been eliminated. It makes their genealogy efforts much more efficient and less costly.

Project Results:
My own Stewart family has been traced back to John Stewart of Macon County North Carolina. John had a son Noah who was born in 1785. We tested descendants of three of Noah's sons. The results showed that these three descendants had a common ancestor. We also tested a descendant of Jacob Stewart who was believed to be Noah's brother. This descendants reuslt matches the others 25/25 indicating a common ancestor. I am pleased to say that over 25 years of genalogy research by others and myself has now been scientfically proven through the DNA study.

DNA Test Results (Alleles) for Project Members

* Haplogroups in green have been confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. if a – is in the HAPLO field then we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider ordering a SNP confirmation test.
