Project Background

Introduction:

There are two basic options in the study of the Scottish Clans DNA project:

A: A deep study of history and ancestry. This usually involves analyzing the origination and migration of the major tribes that inhabited Scotland and the outlying islands. This analysis usually results in one of the various Haplogroup assignments, Clades etc.

B: A specific interest in looking at the history and ancestry of ones family genealogy. The use of Surnames in any legal records prior to 1800 was very spotty and the spelling changed often for many reasons. The precise spelling of the surname as we use it today was a result of a great deal of emphasis on the precise spelling to allow the use of computers in finding records etc. However, many surnames were also merely names of farms or localities and the name changed as the family changed locations. John of Ayr could be the same person as John of Troon.

This Scottish DNA project is looking at both objectives ,but the focus isheavily on the providing of close genetic matches to available genealogy records in order to assist in finding records that could indicate some potential for ancestral connections.
We currently have over 1100 results of the Scottish DNA from various Clans and Families in our database that is available in the private web site. It is normally updated every 2-3 months with the new results that have been added.
