Project Background
This is a Y-DNA project to research the genetic origins of Schmidts from the Volga German villages in Russia, which were founded in the 1760s. The project administrator's Schmidt ancestors came from Stahl am Karaman, Boaro, and Cäsarsfeld, located on the east side of the Volga River (Wiesenseite) near Saratov. Schmidts lived in many other Volga German villages.
