Project Background
This project is open to all people who have the SANSOM surname or its variants (Sansome, Sanson, Sansam) and are interested in finding their Y-DNA matches.
Traditional genealogical methods have indicated that Sansom lineages within the British Isles can be traced back at least 500 years. Even unravelling that portion of the story will require us to map different lineages and carefully analyze the results of Y-DNA testing.
But England is not the only place where Sansoms originated. Our ancestors moved across the European continent -- with enough participants we can discover our common ancestors and reveal the different migratory paths they followed.
How far back can we trace the Sansom history?
More recently, in the past two centuries, Sansoms have spread across the globe to the United States, Canada, Australia and elsewhere. We would like to invite all Sansoms to join the project, to get their Y-DNA tested (reduced pricing is available) and to compare their Y-DNA results through this project. When combined with traditional genealogical pedigrees, together we can reconstruct the different Sansom histories.
