Genealogy by genetics is the greatest addition to Genealogy since the creation of the Family Tree!
By utilizing Molecular Biology to observe the genetic data trail of a lineage you are now able to connect unknown family members by employment and comparison of specific locations on the Non-Recombining Y or mtDNA we inherited from our fathers and mothers.
I just thought it was high time we used this breakthrough technology to track down those elusive Rowan ancestors. And we won't have to "dig up" any of the old folks to do it, so just leave your shovels in the toolshed.
To participate in the Rowan DNA study, click on the "Join This Group" on the top left of this page. That will allow you to fill out a Rowan Project Join Request and order your test kit. Note that we recommend the 25-marker Y-DNA test to begin with. If significant matches are found then an upgrade to the 37 marker can be done to refine your search. Also, note that the person being tested must be a male with the Rowan (or spelling variation) surname. If you have questions, contact Bill Rowan, Project Administrator, at the email above.
