Background
Several researchers of George Reed (kit#6009), who lived in Franklin County, VA, by the mid-1700's, suspected he was descended from a German immigrant to PA named Johann Georg Riet. But the paper trails appear to end in Virginia. This surname project was originally established in 2003 to compare the DNA of descendants of George Reed to that of descendants of Johann Georg Riet. Results confirmed that George Reed was not descended from Johann Georg Riet. The project has since expanded to include any male bearing the surname Reed or its variants.
