Medieval Normans, Flemish-Norman allies, Hiberno-Vikings, or ancient Gauls, Gaels or Brythonic Celts? or all of the above? R-L21 11-13 is a potential deep ancestral variety of people, scattered across the British Isles, Scandinavia, Benelux, France and Germany. Many of the sub-groups have Most Recent Common Ancestors (MRCA) that go back to 800-1200 AD. There are almost 20 sub-groups, three of which have been associated with newly discovered SNP's of L513, L193, L705.2, P66, L69.4 and P314.2 with L362.
There are many surnames but the largest families with 11-13 variety people are Kingston, MacKenzie/McKenzie, Vans/Vance of Barnbarroch, McClain/McLean, O'Shea, Sinclair/St.Clair, Banks, Barrett of Mayo, Kelly of Kildare, Byrnes of Monaghan, Maguire/McGuire of Fermangagh, Ross/Rose of Kilvarock, Massey/Massie, Walsh/Welsh/Welch as well as the Scottish Border Reiver families of Elliott, Clendennen/Glendinning, Irvin/Irvine, Little/Lytle. The key marker is DYS406s1. If it is greater(>) or equal(=) to 11 for you, you should investigate. Ysearch ID XN33E is a 67 marker artificial haplotype that can be used to look for haplotypes that match the 11-13 Combo modal. A second important marker is DYS617. If it is > or = 13, you are almost certainly a good fit. A third marker that is important to one of the sub-groups, P314.2, is DYS388 > or = 13. Another group, Irish Type IV, typically have DYS426 = 13 along with the the 406s1 = 11. The naming for the project comes from these values of 11 and 13. Researcher Ann Stansbarger identified this potential clade when she noticed a strong correlation of people that have the unusual DYS406s1 = 11 that also have the unusual DYS617 = 13.
All of these 11-13 groups are a subset of R1b1a2 (R-M269) people that if deep clade tested are L21+. If you are L21- you would NOT fit into these 11-13 groups.
