This is a Genographic Project forBelgium, Walloons (Brabant, Hainaut, Liege, Luxembourg, Namur, andBrussels provinces). Although it centers on the Quartemont surname,it is open to all individuals who believe they have paternal ormaternal direct lines coming from or in Belgium. DNA testing, bothyDNA for paternal lines and mtDNA for maternal lines can provide apicture of the deep and recent ethnic background of Belgians andtheir descendants. See the goals section for more projectinformation. The success of this project will depend on the numberof individuals that are willing to join and furnish usefulinformation.

Although a 12 marker test is good fordetermining deep ancestral or to exclude one from a group, at least a37 marker test is needed to make full use of DNA genealogicalresearch. I would recommend you consider upgrading to or startingwith a 37 marker test.

Please include on your application formthe surname of the person tested, and if you known, include thegeographic origin and year of birth of their most distant Belgiumancestor.
