Background

The Pickerel name first appears in the United States in Maryland in 1665. Today there are thousands of Pickerel names with many spelling variants in the United States. I don't believe all the present day Pickerels came from one immigrant. It is my belief that there were at least two, possibly more, that came over as apprentices or English convicts that we sent to work the tobacco plantations in the colonies.

I can only trace my own Pickerel back to Green County, Kentucky in 1810. There is much work to do.
