So who do we have on the Boat headed for the New World? According to the latest interpretation of our Y-DNA results, we have an amazing assortment....
First, here is a small group of Europeans who have been hanging around the Atlantic since the last Ice Age. They probably own the boat.
"R1b1 Haplogroup R1b is the most common haplogroup in European populations. It is believed to have expanded throughout Europe as humans re-colonized after the last glacial maximum 10-12 thousand years ago. This lineage is also the haplogroup containing the Atlantic modal haplotype. (John/James NC)
R1b1b2 Haplogroup R1b is the most common haplogroup in European populations. It is believed to have expanded throughout Europe as humans re-colonized after the last glacial maximum 10-12 thousand years ago. This lineage is also the haplogroup containing the Atlantic modal haplotype. " (James Henry and Lynn)
Then we have Hatter and 3 Wives Vikings. They are wearing those funny little helmets with the goats' horns attached, wearing the goatskin around their shoulders, and waving their battle axes while yelling menacingly at the Kugans..
"The I1 lineage likely has its roots in northern France. Today it is found most frequently within Viking / Scandinavian populations in northwest Europe and has since spread down into Central and Eastern Europe, where it is found at low frequencies."
Next we have the guys who are headed for Virginia, the progenitors of Thomas b. 1720 and William b. Goochland 1753 plus various unassigned cousins (the Kugans.) They appear to be in a scrap with the Vikings about how many horses they are allowed to bring aboard the boat and that's why the Vikings are berserking.
"R1a The R1a lineage is believed to have originated in the Eurasian Steppes north of the Black & Caspian Seas. This lineage is thought to descend from a population of the Kurgan culture, known for the domestication of the horse (circa 3000 B.C.E.). These people were also believed to be the first speakers of the Indo-European language group. This lineage is found in central & western Asia, India, and in Slavic populations of Europe."
All of us originated in Africa. This guy's ancestors had the good sense to stay put when the rest of us left. They never had to deal with all that ice. (Ivory)
"E1b1b1 This haplogroup probably originated in eastern Africa and is about 25,000 years old. It expanded into the Mediterranean during the Pleistocene Neolithic expansion. It is currently distributed around the Mediterranean, southern Europe, and in north and east Africa. Lineages that do not belong to any of this haplogroup’s branches are found mainly in eastern and southern Africa."
Now we have the Slavic speakers, swilling vodka and singing "Yo,ho, Heave ho," the song of the Volga boatmen. (They think they are rowing all the way to Georgia.) My guess is they arrived in western Europe with the Crusaders when a young boy was captured and impressed into service, or possibly he rowed backward up the Volga or the Danube.(Henry b.705 England)
"I2a The Balkan countries likely harbored this subgroup of I during the Last Glacial Maximum. Today, this branch is found distributed in the Balkans and Eastern Europe, and extends further east with Slavic-speaking populations."
And finally, standing majestically alone on the poop deck, is a long white-bearded patriarch. He is older than Methuselah and probably is Lucy's grandson. He is headed to North Carolina to found the Silas Line.I am thinking he didn't sail here at all but simply parted the waters and walked on the dry land. I think he is incredibly impressive.
"F The supergroup F is the parent haplogroup of G through T. Undifferentiated F lineages are extremely rare and are distributed in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Future work will better resolve the distribution and historical characteristics of this haplogroup. The current expectation in the science world is that branches will ultimately be found to account for all F lineages."
Now you Vikings try to keep the noise down. You Slavs, don't drink all the vodka before you leave port.
AND YOU KUGANS, BRING YOUR SHOVELS!! You're going to need them before you get to Virginia Colony.
Have a good trip today.
