About us

This project began as a six-member group who trace their lineage to a George W Mourton, b 1808, of the southern Morton's who came from NC/VA to MO, with a possible TN connection. That family intermarried with Nunn, Stinson/Stephenson, Whitaker, Brunson, Spears. An additional Morton line's earliest known ancestor is Richard Morton who died in Hatfield, MA in 1710. This line moved west into New York, Vermont and on into Michigan, and some descendants into Canada by 1840. Another line is descended from George Morton of Plymouth, MA (1585-1624) who is possibly related to the ancient Morton family from Austerfield, Yorkshire, England. Y-DNA test results indicate that Richard Morton of Hatfield, MA was not related to George Morton of Plymouth, MA as many generations have assumed (see "Results" tab).
