Background
Traditional research has identified a high concentration of families having the “Morettin” surname, as residing in North Eastern Italy in the region known today as Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. As far back as 1760, and perhaps further, Morettins lived in Marzinis, Bannia, and Azzano Decimo. These small villages and towns are located in the province of Pordenone. The Morettin International Registry, compiled from public information (ca 1995), lists 228 families having the Morettin surname. These families are distributed across five countries in Europe and North America. There are Morettin families in South America also; however, they were not included in the Registry.
