McKee DNA Project- Background

Background

McKee Family Group, tracing McKee paternal path, likely beginning in Ireland  [Scotland?}, going back to the inception of the use of surnames.  Variations of surname spelling are found and all welcome.  We currently have enough members that we have started to sub-classify and haplogroups are being found which further define the group.   Groupings may also  have come from related individuals.   SNP are making their presence known and serve to further define groups.

In general, we have two lineages possibly via Pennsylvania and several others from unknown ports all along the coast of the New World and several through Canada.   Some went from their British Isles homes to Australia and South Africa, one went from lowland Scotland to England and then to Tasmania, a number have known connections back to Ireland in Counties Tyrone, Cavan, and Donegal and others.  Our first proven Scotland descendant joined us in 2011 and is  R-M222.

Terry Barton of WorldFamilies.net has generously accepted our McKee Group results as a viable part of his organization.   Those with DNA results by other companies can compare with our results at WFN and see how they fit into the group and  by working with Terry and his coworkers may join the WFN McKee Group.  We welcome all new members there.
