Project Background

(Updated 7/2/09 for announcement of July Price reductions.) The McCabe Family DNA study was started in the spring of 2001 in an attempt to find the father of an 1840's McCabe orphan in the U.S. Since that time, the project has significantly expanded as explained under Project Goals.

If your choice is to contribute to the expenses for the testing of a specific individual, first contact the McCabe group administrator by clicking on his email address at the top of this page.

PRICES for participation in the McCabe Surname DNA Project: Participating in a group DNA project produces remarkable savings as compared to ordering as an individual without participation in a group project. The prices are given for the following number of markers studied, followed by the price (in parentheses) if one does NOT belong to a specific group project: 12 markers, $99 ($149); 37 markers, $149 ($259); 67 markers, $238 ($349). Note that a $4 postage charge is added to each amount given. If one starts with a low number of markers and wishes to upgrade to more markers (without sending in another sample), the prices are as follows: from 12 to 25, $49; from 12 to 37, $99; from 12 to 67, $189; from 25 to 37, $49; from 25 to 67, $148; from 37 to 67, $99. These prices are correct as of July 2009. Prices are infrequently reduced for a short time interval and these reductions will be shared on this site.

BREAKING NEWS: Price reductions for the month of July 2009 (and these prices will NOT be extended past July) for three popular tests:

The McCabe project administrator does NOT recommend starting with only 12 markers, as too many matches often result that are found to be NOT significant at the 37 or 67 marker levels.
