Project News
During the last four months, the Family Tree DNA McAlister Project has kept the administrators very busy. Family Tree DNA offered promotional prices on new tests and upgrades. The results on 42 tests were reported for the project between Jan. 1, and Oct. 30, 2009. This includes upgrades and new test. During the same period we added 18 new members to the McAlister DNA group. Our goal was to increase the group to 100 members, but we fell short by 2.
Family Tree DNA has added some new features to its website for the benefit of the members of the Project Group and the Administrators. The Administrators have a new Dashboard window of Widgets to help perform their duties.
Have you been to your FTDNA personal page recently? On the left side of the page are click-on tabs, My Maps: Plot Ancestral Location and Maps. For the project members we have tried to Plot Ancestral Locations of your most distance ancestor. You can do this from your personal page, so if we have made an error in entering this information for you, please correct.
The information is used for comparison with others in the project as displayed on the public page and My Maps on your personal page.
What is My Maps? This feature displays the places where your most distance ancestor was born or the location your ancestors have migrated. A pushpin will appear on the map for each match who has entered the location of their most distant known ancestor. If you have entered the location for your most distant known ancestor, it will also appear on the map so you can compare the locations with others in your subgroup. The map can display any matching level for Y-DNA and mtDNA, based on what you have tested.
You can see that we have been very busy the last four months. In addition one of the administrators has been working with members of subgroup #1 in trying to connect matching family lines.
How are we doing? Please give us your feedback about the McAlister DNA Project. Your comments can be directed to your FTDNA McAlister Project Administrators: J A McAlister and Wanda Shelton.
