Background
The MAYO FAMILIES OF SEPHARDIC ORIGIN Project is open to all who are interested in working together to find their common heritage through sharing of information and DNA testing. All variant spellings are welcome.
This project is focused on the MAYO families (DE MAYO, MAIO, DE MAIO, MAJO, DE MAJO, MAIU, DE MAIU, MAGGIO, DE MAGGIO, MAYA, etc.) of Sephardic ancestry. After the expulsion of the Jews from Spain, the MAYOs moved to numerous regions, primarily around the Mediterrean area and especially the Ottoman Empire.
