Logan DNA Project- Background

Stephanie Falls created a Pre1800Logans email list to discuss the "older" lines of the Logan surname. As 1800 is a common place to hit brick walls it made sense to delineate the lines at 1800. The hope was, and is, to identify and document the Logan lines known at 1800 with the purpose of shortening the work for other researchers using a process of elimination. This forum operates at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Pre1800Logans/. The archives are open to the public. Files of family profiles, census abstracts, and various kinds of reports are available to members. We currently have over 400 members of the forum.

We began our journey by organizing a census project, for both 1790 and 1800. We asked list members to "claim" their families from those documents. In the course of this project, simple cross-references to census records evolved into complete family profiles. We now have over 100 such profiles, each centered on a unique progenitor and most dating to before 1800. Our Research Secretary is O. "Logan" Logan. He maintains the master database and post the profiles on the Pre1800Logans web site and can be accessed through ologan@gmail.com.

Our group continued to evolve thanks to Don Logan. He established a Logan DNA Project at Family Tree DNA. This project is now administered by Jim Logan. Questions should be addressed to him at jjlnv@comcast.net.

All discussion associated with this project are conducted through a Yahoo Groups forum at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Pre1800Logans/. Family profiles, Logan Census abstracts, DNA Relationship charts, etc. are all available in the file section of that web site. All Logan researchers are welcome.
