The Roux/LeRoux/Larue DNA Surname Project exists in order to assist genealogists with their family genealogical research through the addition of information gained through genetic testing. Each of the distinct surnames included in this project is assumed to have originated from separate family lines from separate places within Europe at the time that surnames were being adopted. Therefore, we clearly expect different genetic patterns (called haplogroups) to be found among test participants with various surnames. However, even within well documented family lines, we often see surname spelling variations over multiple generations or even among siblings of a single generation. These inconsistent surname spellings can make tracing an accurate ancestry through many generations within the any of the above surnames challenging to impossible. DNA testing is a useful and complimentary tool that can be used in establishing or confirming a suspected lineage despite variations in surname spellings. For this reason, the Roux/LeRoux/Larue DNA Surname Project seeks to serve all the following name variants: Roux, Rue, Laroux, Larue, leroux, lerue. Although this project was originally designed to include family lines that trace through the United States, Canada, and France, it is open to anyone worldwide interested in researching this surname.
