Project Background
There are several KASCH men who seem to have originated from the area in northern Germany called Pomerania. There is a good likelihood that they are distantly related, but no paper proof has been generated so far. The main difficulty has been that the German Lutheran Church in Pomerania refused to allow the LDS Library to film their church records in the 1930's. Therefore, since Pomerania was occupied by the Russians from 1945 to 1991, no one knew if there were any church records remaining. When the wall came down, it was discovered that all of the little churches still have their records. Norman and I went to the area in 2001 accompanied by Peter and Florence KASCH. We had a very short time to do research, but found many things in the various churches we were able to visit. But, the one record that we need in order to establish that Peter and Norm are indeed cousins has eluded us.
We have met with Harry KASCH and corresponded with the sister of Dr. Fred W. KASCH here in the USA and concluded that they could be part of this family also. Another trip to Germany is rather remote, so we settled on this method in an effort to prove a relationship or not.
