They prospered, some served in the US military, some became political figures, and their families grew and migrated to other US states. Roelf Kespohl, my Great Grandfather, changed his name to Caspole when he became a naturalized US citizen.
. It’s possible there is a recent common ancestor because the name Kespohl is not common and all the Kespohls I have found have roots in Lippe, Germany. I have a database taken from the International Genealogy Index of the Church of Later Day Saints approximating 2000 individuals and their families. In my research I have found almost 30 alternative spellings of the name and it is quite possible that Caspel (Dutch) and Caspell (English or Canadian) may also be related.
