The J-L24-Y-DNA Haplogroup Project
By specifically studying the J-L24 clade we (the co-administrators Kamel Al-Gazzah, Debra Katz, Tim Janzen, and myself (Al Aburto)) hope to make significant progress in understanding our Y-DNA L24 genetic properties, our origins, dispersals, ages, histories, and genealogy. We will be very active in recruiting new candidates from Ysearch and the FTDNA projects. We hope to build an off-line web-site too so that we can recruit from an even wider range of genetic testing companies. We plan to seek donations so that we can participate in an FTDNA project called "Walk Through the Y" (WTY) searching for even more SNPs (subclades) within L24. All members are contributors too of course and we welcome your thoughts and suggestions and efforts in recruiting other L24/L25 (J2a4h) candidates. We need many more members joining so that we can work out the detailed genetic structure and history of our J-L24 family tree! We will maintain an active Y-STR phylogenetic tree of J-L24 which we will update periodically. It will be based on 67 marker haplotypes however as studies have shown that the 67 marker haplotypes provide the best resolution and accuracy. We value our members privacy which we will protect to the best of our abilities!
The L24/L25 SNPs are relatively newly discovered and we want to test them widely to see if there are members that are L24+ and L25- (have the L24 mutation but not the L25 mutation). We can only learn this by testing these SNPs. Currently L24+ and L25+ are the rule as only a few cases (so far) have been found that are L24+ and L25-.
We have other goals too that are very important to us:
There are absolutely no political or religious motivations or intentions in what we are doing!
Understanding the genetic characteristics and history of our J-L24 clade is our primary scientific goal.
We are open to all who are J-L24/L25 candidates or already confirmed as L24/L25.
We will not show bias to one group over another!
We will treat everyone equally and fairly!
We ask however, as a minimum, to enter your most distant known paternal ancestor's country in your
User Preferences and the latitude and longitude of the capitol of that country, in your
Ancestral Origins section. We welcome more information too of course, but country and latitude/longitude as a minimum is requested. Please write to us if you have questions with the latitude and longitude determination or conversion to decimal degrees.
