Hexter DNA Project

About us

Although the Hexter/Hoechster/Hoexter surname suggest that the family may have originated in the town of Höchst or Höchster at some point in their distant past, Hexters lived in the Hessen area at least from the beginning of the 17th Century.  The earliest documented Hexter is Nehm Höxter who came to Schweinsberg from Beidenkopf in 1627.  So this project hopes to learn if the Hexters of the various nearby communities  share a common direct male line ancestor.

Here are the early generations of the various Hexter lines inthe Hesse area.  Throught the testing of one male from each community we hope to discover the relationship between these Hexters.   The records of Schweinsberg reveal that Nehm had a son Münsch (=Man).  Could this individual be the same as Mordche who is the patriarch of the Hexters of Storndorf?   We hope to answer this and many other questions.   Hopefully we will also find dna matches with other surnames in the area that will help re-attach some of these distant branches.   The records of Mardorf show that there was an Isaac who may be the son of Nehm of Schweinsberg.

Here are some of the earliest Hexters who lived in Hessen.  Female lines have been pruned so it is easier to follow the male line which carries the Y-DNA.

Other Random Hexters from the Hesse area.  I would guess that the Kirchhein/Mansbach/Angenrod Hexters are closely related.   But the name Juda also ties in with the names in Treysa.    So maybe Juda is a grandson of Judas of Treysa! The father might even be that Isaak who was denied permission to live in Treysa as the first born son is also Isaak.  Both Juda and Löb have connections to the Wallach family & Mansbach.  Once we've received results for the 3 main Hexter lines, we can then venture to expand to some of the other Hexters in the Hesse area.
