About us

I started this project by ordering the first kit for my brother. We found as adults that the name we were raised with, DeLoach, was not our name at all. Our grandmother had married John Robert Haire in November of 1922, had my father in November of 1923, divorced John Haire when my dad was 18 months old and, later, remarried. Her new husband was a DeLoach. My father had the DeLoach name his whole life. My father had 5 children and we all had the DeLoach name. My sister Jamie and I began to search for our Haire ancestors around 1991.We found that our original immigrant, James Haire, came to America in 1788 from Antrim, Ireland and settled in York, South Carolina. He was in the 1800 York census with 1 male under 10, 3 females under 10 and one female 16-26. His son, James Arthur Haire married Mary Brown McDonald of Chester, SC. Their children were Eliza McDonald Clark Haire, that married Joseph E Houston, Arthur E Haire, that married Lilla Latimer, James Crawford Haire,(my ancestor), that married Margaret Anderson, William McGill Haire,(twin to James Crawford Haire that died either young or at birth) Mary Ann Martin Haire,(died young) Martha Joan Angeline Haire, married John Rufus Smith, Caroline M Haire that married Joseph E Johnston, And John Tate McDonald Haire that married Betty Humes. This family was in Monroe County, Tennessee. Other members of this Haire family came to America from Ireland or Scotland at different times. One was Alexander Haire who settled in Randolph County, Illinois. I have found census records where their names were spelled HAYER or HAYR. But it is the same family as the York, SC Haires.
Join our group so that we may be able to connect or disprove a connection to the many Hair/Haire/Hayer families.
