The Gysi/Geise/Giese FamilyTree DNA project has recently been expanded from its original goal. We have recognized three origins to the surname.
The Geise family may have originated in the Alsace region of France. There's a long history of Geise/Guise families in the region.
The Giese family originated in Germany and descendants still reside there. Many immigrants have come to America over the past two centuries.
The Gysi/Gysin family originated in Canton Basel, Switzerland. We have identified over a dozen Gysi immigrants from Switzerland to the US who arrived during the 18th and 19th Centuries.
