Kit #48967 - earliest known ancestor - James P. Short, born about 1805, possibly in Washington Co, VA. He was in Harlan Co, KY by 1827 when he was involved with a paternity question.  He married Rebecca Bailey on 30 Sept 1829 and they had nine known children.  A family journal lists James’ date of death as 22 Jan 1894 and he and Rebecca are buried in the Short Cemetery at Holmes Mill, Harlan Co, KY.  Family stories relate that James and his sister were orphans and another says that Short is not really the family name.  The genetic relationship with this Gilliland group is being investigated.

Kit #94575 - earliest known ancestor - William van Buren Gilliland, born 17 May 1838 in St. Clair Co, AL, and died 10 Oct 1932 in Etowah Co, AL.  This DNA test is for only 12 markers so it is not known if it will remain in this group if additional markers are tested.

Kit #103485 - earliest known ancestor - John Gilliland, born about1750 in Ireland, and his wife Hannah Michaels, through their son Andrew M. who was born in 1791 in York Co, PA and married Mary Kearns.

Kit #111207 - earliest known ancestor - William Gilliland, born 1763, came to Beaver Co, PA in the early 1800’s.  The ancestral line lived near Eglinton, Londonderry, Northern Ireland for at least four generations before coming to America.  This DNA contains special variances that should be discounted for comparison with this group. The variances at DYS 459b, 464c, 464d and CDYb happened as one event and should be counted as a single variance.

Kit #115091 - earliest known ancestor - William Davis Hill, born1781 and lived in Amherst Co, VA.  His mother was Elizabeth Hill daughter of William and Susannah Hill.  Susannah married a Mr. Gilliland about 1787 and because of the DNA match it is believed that the father of William D. Hill could be related to this Gilliland line.

Kit #139250 - earliest known ancestor - Richard Gilliland, born 1765 in Ireland, apparently lived in Philadelphia, then Ohio and died 11 March 1838 in Brown Co, Indiana.  His son William was born 1 Feb 1808 in Pennsylvania and died 29 March 1885 in Brown Co, Indiana.

Kit #162062 - earliest known ancestor - James Gilliland, born 1819 in OH and his wife Anna Partlow, through their son James G. who was born 1845 and married Rebecca Chancellor. About this time the name was shortened to Gillilan, which has been continued to the present.

Kit #164306 - earliest known ancestor - Thomas Gilleland, born in 1763 in NC.  He married Mary Allen and the majority of Gillelands in Lincoln/Catawba Cos, NC are believed descended from him.  This descendant is from his son Thomas. (see also kits #179310, #191162, #225706, and #274564)

Kit #165548 - earliest known ancestor - Alexander Gilliland, born about 1737, and his wife Frances Elizabeth Baird. Alexander Gilliland died 17 October 1796 in Lincoln Co, North Carolina.

Kit #177142 - earliest known ancestor - Samuel Gilliland, born about 1685 and married Elizabeth Smith in PA, through their son Nathan who was born about 1720 and married Jane Donahue.  Nathan was recorded at the Scots-Irish Settlement in Augusta Co, VA by 1745.  The name changed to Gillilan in the early 1800’s and later changed to Gillian, which is used today.

Kit #179801 - (see Kit #N18967) - This descendant is from his son Hiram P., born 1826 in MS. The similarity between the DNA for these tests and others in this group is being investigated.

Kit #191162 - (see Kit #164306) - This descendant is from his son Allen and Jane McClure White who were married in Lincoln Co, NC.

Kit #194002 - earliest known ancestor - John Gilliland, born about 1745 in VA, and died about 1798, and wife Elizabeth Young, through their son Elijah (Eli) Gilliland who married Keziah Haynie.

Kit #206459 - earliest known ancestor - Samuel Nesbitt Gilliland, born 1 Sept 1798 in SC and died 4 Jan 1858 in Attala Co, MS.  He married Rebecca Ann Harvey on 15 Jan 1829.

Kit #208123 - earliest known ancestor - James Evans Gilliland.  Researchers are trying to connect this line with the Etowah/DeKalb, Co AL Gilliland group that came from Pendleton SC, where James Evans Gilliland was born (according to his civil war registration).

Kit #213340 - earliest known ancestor - John Gilliland, born 1790 in Caney Creek, SC and died 1834 in Gallant, Etowah Co, AL.  He married Rebecca McBrayer 10 Apr 1811 in Buncombe Co, NC, daughter of David McBrayer and Mary Young.  Rebecca was born 5 Mar 1794 in Horseshoe Creek, Buncombe Co, NC and died July 1849 in DeKalb Co, AL.

Kit #214292 - earliest known ancestor - John Gilliland, born circa 1808 in TN who married Elcie O’Dell, through their son William who married Rebecca Jenkins.

Kit #216037 - earliest known ancestor - John Gilliland, born circa 1768 in VA and died circa 1810, and wife Sarah Berry, through their son John Berry Gilliland who was born 17 Jan 1790 in Washington Co, VA and died 28 Sept 1857 in Huntsville, Madison Co, AR.  His wife was Jane McFerrin.

Kit #218390 - earliest known ancestor - Jesse Gilliland. (Information on this line is expected.)

Kit #223462 - earliest known ancestor - James Gilleland who had land in Guilford Co, NC in the 1783-87 period.  He was supposedly married to Mary Morrison.  James moved his family to Barren Co, KY around 1800 where his will was filed in January 1825.  His son Samuel was born 7 Jan 1802 in Guilford Co, NC and married Mary Welborn in KY in 1823.  Samuel and Mary later migrated to Miller Co, MO.

Kit #225271 - earliest known ancestor - John Gilliland, born 1763 in Ireland and died 14 Feb 1826, and wife Jane Briggs, through their son James Gordon Gilliland, born 7 May 1800 in Hagerstown, MD and died 2 October 1862.  James is buried in Van Wert, OH. His wife was Margaret Lawson.

Kit #229634 - earliest known ancestor - John Gilliland, born circa 1797 in NC and died circa 12 Oct 1855 in St. Clair County, AL, and wife Sarah Elizabeth Brasier through their son James Alexander.

Kit #229712 - earliest known ancestor - Thomas Gilliland, born circa 1735 and died 1793, who settled near what is now Augusta, GA in 1759, through his son William H. Gilliland, born 25 Nov 1761, St. Paul Parrish, GA, and died 25 Nov 1840 in Fayette Co, GA.

Kit #270219 - earliest known ancestor - Thomas Gilliland, born circa 1 Dec 1784, PA, and died 3 Jan 1837, Vevay, Switzerland County, IN, and wife Ann, through their son Robert J. Gilliland and his wife Emily Agness Hensley.  The subject of this DNA testing was adopted and through autosomal DNA test comparisons was able to discover the name of his Gilliland ancestor.

Kit #270956 - earliest known ancestor - Archibald Gilland, baptized on 9 Jan 1830, St. Anne's Parish Shankill, County Antrim, Ireland and died 1864 at Camp Sumter Military Prison, Andersonville, Georgia, and wife Mary A. Suter.  His father was Archibald Gilliland, born in Ireland circa 1776 and died circa 1860, Ripley County, IN. Name changed from Gilliland to Gilland.

Kit #194368 - earliest known ancestor - John Gilliland (1766-1849) who married Charity Richardson, daughter of Mathias and Frances Richardson.  John Gilliland appeared on the 1790 and 1800 Anderson Co, SC census records along with his in-laws the Richardsons.  Records show that in the early 1800s John and Charity moved to KY.

Kit #219078 - earliest known ancestor - Thomas Gilliland, born 5 Sep 1830 in SC, married Patience Sullivan (place unknown), and settled in Tuscaloosa Co, AL in the early 1850's.   Thomas died in Moores Bridge, Tuscaloosa Co, AL on 12 Mar 1888.  Thomas and Patience had 12 known children.

Kit #222479 - earliest known ancestor - William Gilliland, born in 1801 in KY (possibly Barren Co), moved to Jackson Co, AL and died in Van Zandt Co, TX about 1875.

Kit #228001 - earliest known ancestor - Allen Gilliland, born 19 Oct 1783 (probably in SC) and died 16 Nov 1860 in Overton Co, TN.  He was married on 12 Dec 1809 in Pulaski Co, KY to Polly Pascal/Paschal who was born on 23 Apr 1792 in VA and died 28 May 1861 in Overton Co, TN.  There is a good possibility that the father of Allen was Robert Gilliland who was in Greenville District, SC in the late 1700s and eventually moved to Warren Co, KY where he died.
