About us
The Flickinger surname comes from the Swiss German name: Flückiger. There are French and other
variations. Y-DNA testing can help to separate and identify our family lines. The male Y-chromosome
is handed down from father to son unchanged through the generations, except for rare mutations which
can be indicators of branching.
The migration of this family name was from Weissenburg, Bavaria in the 1300s, to northern
Switzerland in the 1500s, and then a spread of various family lines in various directions
during the 1700s: some migrated northwest to Alsace, others north to Queichhambach, Pfalz or up to the Netherlands;
some continued west to America, or south to South America, and others went to Eastern Europe.
