Background

This project is for people have have multiple ancestry connections interlinked together.  It started with many interlinked Bailey connections of my family but has grown to include many others.  Those who have a parent/child or sibling to sibling connection involving multiple kits are welcome to join.  Those who have matches to other people already in this project are especially invited to join and in fact we hope they will.  The more we have connected to each other the better.

This is a Family Finder project.  If you are not familiar with Family Finder, it is a test offered by Family Tree DNA used to test for relations within their database up to 5 generations away.  We have had connections up to 9 generations away though as some parts of our DNA do continue to be passed down beyond 5 generations.

Family Finder test looks at DNA from our 22 of our 23 pairs of chromosomes and finds shared segments with others in the database.  The closer two or more people are related the larger the segments shared.  Results from the Family Finder test will show predictions of relatedness to the others whom you share DNA with.

Family Finder uses autosomal DNA (inherited from both the mother and father, four grandparents, eight great-grandparents, etc.) to provide you a breakdown of your ethnic percentages and connect you with relatives descended from any of your ancestral lines within approximately the last 5 generations.

Results Include:  Genetic matches with relationship ranges, visual tools to show matching DNA, and ethnic percentages. Family Tree DNA does not charge a subscription fee. We will continue to update you about new matches and other information regarding your results.

Should I Take Family Finder?

If you are interested in using DNA for close genealogy relationships (within the past 5 generations) that cross gender lines or if you are curious about your ethnic percentages, Family Finder is the right choice!

The Family Tree DNA website provides options for ordering the Family Finder test and other tests useful for genealogic research.  Other tests include a YDNA or a mtDNA test also offered by Family Tree DNA.
