This project involves the Y-chromosome testing of males who share the surname ENGLISH (ENGLIS, INGLISH, INGLIS or variations.) By comparing test results to others with this surname it can be determined if you are related. The results do not tell you exactly how you are related but will indicate if you share a common ancestor with another participant.
OVERVIEW OF MATCHES/CONNECTIONS
updated: 25 June 2007
========== Group 1 ============
Group 1 shares an unknown common ancestor but is presented in three sections.
[1.1] - NC and/or GA Lines = Share paper trails: E-0008 and E-0016 to Mathew English (c.1755) and E-0002, E-0018 and E-0026 to Sampson J. English (1790) whose relationship is probably very, very close (first cousins?)
[1.2] - Alabama/Texas Line E-0001; this line is genetically closer to group 1.1 than to group 1.3.
[1.3] - NC and/or GA Lines = No shared paper trails but E-0005 (NC/GA) & E-0013 (NJ!) appear to be more closely related to each other than to those in 1.1.
========== Group 2 ============
Group 2 shares an unknown common ancestor.
Uncle and nephew have a match with the Clement English who is present very early (1646) Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts.
<> E-0006, E-0007 are uncle and nephew, migration path County Antrium, Ireland to Ontario, Canada.
<> E-0023 is located in very early America, is in Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts by 1646.
<> E-0028 moved between Co. Down Ireland > to Ayr Scotland > + to USA by 1885
========== Group 3 ============
Group 3 - "Niall of the Nine Hostages"
FTDNA reports a genetic distance of 6 (5 mismatches) at 37 markers for these two. They share a common ancestor but based on what is known at this time, the ancestor is probably very, very distant. Their results also match the proposed profile of the 5th-century warlord known as "Niall of the Nine Hostages" who established a dynasty of powerful chieftains that dominated the island for six centuries and may be the ancestor of one in 12 Irishmen.[see: http://www.familytreedna.com/matchniall.html]
========== Group 4 ============
Group 4 has no shared paper trail but it appears this line originated out of Scotland.
Includes surname Inglis and English – appears to be a surname spelling change over time for one line.

========== Group 7 ============
Group 7 -shared paper trail?
