Background

The Dingley surname project seeks to establish the genetic relationships among various lineages of Dingleys from America, as well as those lines from England, Scotland, and Ireland. The primary goal as the project gains its first few members will be to group representatives who can trace their genealogy back to various early ancestors, and corroborate those DNA results with known paper genealogies. This project stems from a personal interest in the family and ancestry of my gggg-grandfather Captain Charles Llewellyn Dingley (1829-1889). He descended from a long line of Dingleys in Maine and Massachusetts from colonial times. Although I am not a direct male line descendant of Captain Dingley, it was stories my grandmother told me as a child about his life as a sea captain in Maine and California during the mid 19th century that started my lifelong interest in genealogy.
