Background
Many families with the surname Danko originate in Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine.
In Poland at the beginning of the 21st century, the number of individuals with the surnames Danko, Danka, Dan~ko, and Dan~ka together number about 1100, and most individuals with these surnames are currently found in southern Poland (the former Austrian partition of Poland called Galicia) and in northeastrn Poland.
In Hungary, individuals with the surnames Danka, Danko, Dankó, Donka, Donko, and Donkó together number about 1300, ranking this group of surnames number 185 in the list of most common surnames in Hungary today.
In the United States, approximately 2500 individuals share the Danko surname.
