Project Background:

In conjunction with the CurtisCurtiss Society, a genealogy group since 1939,our goal was to obtain DNA samples from descendants of 24 known immigrant Curtis families who came to the colonies in the 1600s and early 1700s.It was hoped the DNA of descendants of these early families could be matched with Curtis families of today extending their families back to these early Curtis families and significantly adding to their family trees and family info.

Project Goals:

In the past 25 months, we have obtained DNA samples from descendants of 17 of the early 24 known immigrant families. Altogether, we have DNA results from 80 of 85 kits submitted for Curtis males; 60 of them have matched other Curtis DNA donors and only 20 are without matches --yet.Two of the unmatched samples did match the DNA of other surname groups suggesting they may not be from Curtis ancestors. 37 were matched within the 18 early Immigrant families.We still pursue donors to provide DNA for the other 7- early immigrant families which include the following : 1655-William,Salem,MA.; 1679-John, Kent Co. DE.;1679- John, PA ; and 1712- John, York ME.1637 Richard, Dorchester ,1638 Thomas, York ME, and 1652 Henry,Marblehead.& Boston, MA./ Boothbay, ME.

The earliest Curtis ancestors cited by our 85 DNA donors are listed above. This list will continue to grow as additional DNA samples are recieved. If you see a Curtis in the list who could be in your family ,or if you want your family represented in the DNA data bank for the next 25 years, contact our Administrator/ Richard Curtis, by email or by phone: 619-929-1153, and make arrangements to have the 25 marker test made for a male member of your family.He can explain the simple procedures and help you to become part of our Curtis DNA project.
