This Family Tree DNA project was started to determine the relationships of the various Cecil (Cissell, Ciscle) family branches in the US and those in England, Wales, and Scotland - where they presumably originated.

Testing has shown that several of the US Branches and the Branch in England attributed to William Cecil, Lord Burghley, are related and do share common male ancestors.

Next generation testing is now being used to try to better define these relationships and provide more accurate estimates of the times for the common ancestors (probably in the 1500s & 1600s).   Connections to much earlier families are also being examined.
