Project Surnames
Carew, Carow, Carron, Carrow
Project Background
Those of the surname Carrow and Carew have traced their ancestors migration into Coastal regions of Colonial America between 1643 and 1678. They were coastal dwellers & seafarers and both the southern family(NC) and the more northern (DE,MD,VA) have strong ties to Baltimore and the Chesapeake Bay.
Were they the same family and what is their ethnicity if it is a common one? Results show that the Carrow family members who have tested in NC and DE match exactly at 37 markers.
One Caroon family and one Carawan family seem related with a GD of3.
The MD&DE line has some link to Ireland as James Carew sailed from Waterford on the St.George of London in 1678 and Henry Carew was a Catholic priest educated there and sent to MD by 1672.The MD/DE 17th century Carew/Carow men held similar public offices.
The migration time suggests a link with English Civil War strife in Ireland.
We are working now to prove the relationship lines and to establish the true migration history of this family(or these families).
