Project Background
Welcome to the CARLISLE Surname DNA Project!
Use tabs above to access other parts of the project web page.
For genealogical information on lines that have been tested, see the Results section.
Earliest known ancestors of project members are also shown on the Y-Results page.
This project is open to participants worldwide, with surname CARLILE/ CARLYLE/ CARLISLE, or any reasonable variant spelling.
This is a Y-dna study, so only males can be tested. Y-dna is present only in males and passes from father to son, as does the surname.
Researchers who do not have the surname themselves or are female can participate
by finding a living male CARLISLE relative willing to provide a simple, painless cheek-rubbing sample.
****When joining, please also send genealogical/ pedigree information to the project administrator.****
To order a test kit from Familytreedna at the group rate, use the 'join this group' link in upper left corner of this page.
If you are a CARLILE/CARLYLE/CARLISLE male who has already done a DNA test with FTDNA or National Geographic, but are not a group member, you can join the group simply by logging in to your personal page at FTDNA, and use the 'join' button and the top of the page, and the select "Carlisle" from the menu of projects that appears, or do a project search for 'Carlisle.'
If you have tested with another lab , you are welcome to include/compare your DNA results and pedigree in this project by contacting the group administrator(s).
Many researchers like to use DNA to explore their "deep ancestry" and may be able to learn something of their early ethnic origins, even without having their genealogy completed to that early time. Others just want to help get past brick walls when their paper trail gets thin, by proving or ruling out connections through DNA.
FTDNA also has surname projects for Liles/Lyles and Lisle. We have had two cross-matches between the surnames Lyles and Carlisle.
