Background, Goals, News, Results, Y Results, and mt Results
The CHAUDOIN, etc. Surname DNA Project (including the many variants listed above) was organized in October 2004. Having read many success stories in matches with DNA for genealogical purposes, I decided that it is time to try to advance CHAUDOIN, etc. research. DNA identification in many cases may help when there are no written documents to help to prove one's ancestry or one wishes to validate their DNA. The success of the Project will depend on the number of male participants who join the testing group, as well the documentation of the known research connected with each unique line regarding dates and locations of birth, death, marriage, etc. Please contact and encourage males of the above different surnames to participate in the Project to help to ensure its success.
Y-DNA testing identifies markers for the male Y-chromosome that is passed, only, from father to son through the generations. Therefore, the testing requires a male with one of the above mentioned surnames or possible other variant. If you are a female with the CHAUDOIN or variant surname listed above, you may have a father, uncle, brother, male cousin, etc. willing to volunteer in your place. If there was a break in the paternal line somewhere in time due to illegitimacy, alias, adoption, etc. the direct lineage may have been interrupted.
Back in 2004 I chose the Family Tree DNA of Houston, TX as our testing company, as it's testing purpose looked to be essential to the researcher in trying to find family genealogical connections . However, since the creation of this project numerous testing options have been developed by the Family Tree DNA Company, so you need to explore the best option for your purpose.
If the markers of two or more male individuals match, it will probably indicate they descend from a common male or variant surnamed ancestor back in time. It will not identify the specific ancestor, but through the sharing of family information via a paper trail with other participants, that ancestor could be found. It is my opinion that a multi-marker test is much better at reporting the kind of data that is needed to determine closer relationships. You can select one test and eventually upgrade from one of these to a higher marker test at a later date.

Establishment of this project does not suggest a business partnership or other relationship between this project organizer and the Laboratory. All funds are payable only and directly to the Laboratory. The project organizer will not be the recipient nor steward of any DNA samples and has no responsibility for their care, handling or return to participant, nor duty to act on behalf of participant in mediation of any dispute between the Participant and the Laboratory. While a match between two participants may indicate that they share a common male ancestor, it will not identify the specific ancestor and there is no guarantee that every participant will match another participant. By participation in the project, the participant agrees to all conditions of the Project.
STEPS IN JOININGJoin the project by clicking on the link for ordering your individual kit. When kit arrives, follow directions. Return kit including the special waiver form that comes with the kit so that FamilyTree DNA will have permission to share results with Project Administrator/Coordinator and Co-Coordinator.
The Project Administrator/Coordinator and Co-Coordinator are not responsible for problems that arise from content found within the lineages of each participant. The Project Administrator/Coordinator and Co-Coordinator are not responsible for disputes, conflicts or other problems between web site visitors, participants, and researcher(s).
Sponsorship Offer
7 September 2006
Members of the CODRON family (many, but not all, in California) are pleased to be included in this DNA project. We have also informed members of the CAUDRON family (mostly in France) of the project and hope that will generate more participation. The CODRON family has a long history on the Island of Rhodes (in present day Greece, passed from Ottoman/Turkish to Italian and finally to Greek rule), likely dating back to the late 1600's. The first CODRON we can document on Rhodes died in 1769. This was only discovered a few years ago and we suspect his name may have been spelled CAUDRON originally. Additionally, we have information that leads us to believe our name may have originated in France as CAUDRON rather than in Spain where we originally thought. Today, the CODRONs from Rhodes have relations that span the globe. Our participation in this project is to determine if there is a link between the CAUDRON name (or derivatives) and the CODRON family from Rhodes. We would appreciate it very much if you would consider participating in this project or in helping to recruit members of the CAUDRON family (or similar spellings). This would help us immensely in our research. We are so committed to this goal that we would like to offer financial assistance for anyone who would be interested in participating but who could use a little help to afford the test. If you are a male with the name CAUDRON, CHAUDRON, CADRON, CATRON, COTRON, CODRON or KODRON (or any similar derivative we may not yet have considered that might prove a link), have not already determined a definitive link to the CODRON family described above and would be willing to participate with a full or partial sponsorship, please advise Audrey Hancock as soon as possible. She will contact us and help us administer the process. Note: Offer presented by the CODRON family group.
Affirmation of one's sponsorship will be determined by the family group wishing to achieve their research goal and criteria. Your information and desire to be a candidate will be forwarded to the sponsoring group. I will only act as a communication medium between parties and help in the process between the family and FT DNA. Audrey
