Project Surnames:
Project Background: | The project was started November 13, 2002. So far three family representatives from distinctly different families have participated. Two have ancestors in PA, but they do not have a common ancestor. |
Project Goals: | The Bobb surname is rare both in the United States and in Euruope. The goal of our project is to unite Bobb families (all spellings) by discovering which Bobb branches have common ancestors. |
Project News: We are testing Bobb family members of any variant spelling or origin.
Many of the earlier colonial Bobb families in the US have roots in Pennsylvania. Also many of the Bobb immigrant ancestors came from either Germany or France. |
Project Results: Presently two participants descend from colonial families in Pennsylvania. Kit number 5580 descends from Nicholas Bobb who came from Germany and d June 1817 in Cumberland Co PA. We know that he was living in Cumberland County in 1795. The second participant 5666 descends from Peter Bobb b 16 Aug 1781 Beaver Twp Northumberland PA m Wilhemina Hassinger. We can see that the first two Bobb families tested are not related. The kit number 5580 shows a set of numbers that matches closest to others of I The I,lineages are nearly completely restricted to northwestern Europe. These would most likely have been common within Viking populations. One lineage of this group extends down into central Europe. The kit number 5666 matches closest to those of who are of R1b. Haplogroup R1b is the most common haplogroup in European populations.
The results to this point show that the Bopp surname results have not matched any of the Bobb surname results, but our database is still small. Bopp ancestry results are being tracked on a separate project at

DNA Test Results (Alleles) for Project Members * Haplogroups in green have been
confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have
been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the
individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease
and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for
ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. if a – is in the HAPLO field then
we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the
kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider
ordering a SNP confirmation test.
