Project Surnames

Baildon, Belden, Belding

Project Background

Many of us can trace our ancestry to a point where records are missing or not available, often as families began moving out of New England in the 18th and 19th centuries. This project is an attempt to connect others tracing the Belding or Belden surname. It has been said we all are descendents of Richard Baildon who settled in Wethersfield, Connecticut in the 1600s. DNA testing will provide proof whether that it true or not. I have tentatively traced my Belding line back to Benjamin Belden (1760?-1802) of Rye, Westchester County, New York. My proven ancestor Benjamin Belding (1801-1866) is came from Sawpits (Rye), Westchester County around 1828 and settled in Greenwich, Huron County, Ohio.
