Project Background

Project Description

The objective of this dual geographic lineage project is to grow additional limbs on our ancestral tree using the results of both Y-DNA and mtDNA testing.

Historical records have identified our maternal lineage in Walloon Belgium from the early 1700's, including Jeanne Weris(born about 1735), Louise Natal(1780), Therese Roumieux(1813) and Josephine Wenin(1840). All of these births were in the area of Clavier, Ocquier, Borlon, Septon and Durbuy. These villages are in the provinces of Liege and Luxembourg of Belgium. We invite you to help us to further develop this mitochondrial DNA tree.

The direct paternal surname, Magin, was identified in Walloon Belgium back to the early 1700's primarily in the villages of Modave and Clavier. The objective is to extend the ancestral tree with the siblings and the marriages at any generation level. We invite you to help us develop this Y-DNA tree.

We recommend the mtDNAPlus test and the Y-DNA37 test for participation in this project.

Additional Background

Our ancestral line crossed the Atlantic Ocean from Belgium to Texas in 1883.

Our maternal lineage was identified from Texas back to Walloon Belgium:
Jeanne Weris(b. abt 1735), m. Jean Natal
Marie Louise Natal(b. abt. 1780), m. Jean Joseph Roumieux
Marie Theresa Joseph Roumieux(1813), m. Henry Joseph Wenin
Josephine Wenin(1844), m. Antoine Joseph Magin

The paternal lineage, Magin, was identified in Walloon Belgium as follows:
Charles(abt 1730) m. Marie Lezion
Hubert(1757) m. Marie Anne Flohimont
Joseph Julius(1807) m. Marie Jeanne Martial
Antoine(1838) m. Josephine Wenin(1844)

Work continues to expand the lineage through public records. The opportunity exists to expand the line, both horizontally and vertically, and at a faster pace, using Y-DNA and mitochondrial DNA testing.

Please review the remainder of the presentation under the tabs; goals, news, and results.

If you can trace your lineage to anyone in our lines or any of their siblings, you are invited to join this project.

We recommend the Y-DNA37 test and the mtDNAPlus test for this project.

If you have HVR1 Haplogroup, U5a1a, and think you might be a member of a maternal line originating from within someone in this project or your line goes back further than 1750, you are invited to join.

Remember, to join, click on the "request to join this group" on the top left margin of this page.
