This project is to facilitate the use of Y-DNA for connecting lines of Balch families. As project administrator, I will be here to assist with interpretation of results. I highly recommend starting with no less than 25 markers, the 37 marker test is the most desirable. The 12 marker test is good for disproving relationships, but can be insufficient to prove one. You could always upgrade markers later, however. To join the project, you will need to have a male donor still carrying the Balch surname (or paternity).
