The Y-chromosome DNA STR markers that were tested by DNA Heritage as part of their Y-DNA46 panel do not fully match the 37 Y-DNA STR markers tested by Family Tree DNA as part of our Y-DNA37 panel. Upgrading to Y-DNA37 provides the missing markers.

Storage of your DNA Sample is also included with any post DNA Heritage Y-DNA Conversion.

No, your DNA profile will be stored in a confidential and secure way until you opt-in or notify us that you will not be opting in.

  14. Do I have to opt-in to Family Tree DNA to be able to view my results? Will I still have access to view my results using Oracle/DNA Heritage? faq id: 1587

Your results will be accessible only for a limited time through the DNA Heritage Oracle database. After that, if you opt-in to Family Tree DNA's database, you will have a record with Family Tree DNA and will be able to see your results at our website.

  15. Once I opt-in to the DNA Heritage to Family Tree DNA transfer, how quickly will I be able to view my results? Will I receive login credentials for the Family Tree DNA website? faq id: 1589

Once you complete the opt-in process, you will be able to view your transferred results immediately. If you order the Y-DNA Conversion + Y-DNA37 test, you will be able to view matches and those results about four to five weeks after you return your new sample kit.

  16. Once I opt-in, what information will be shared with Family Tree DNA? faq id: 1591

Family Tree DNA does not share information with third parties, and our customers choose what information they disclose.

While Family Tree DNA received a database with all results from DNA Heritage, we will not use an individual result set in any way or form until the owner of the test has opted in.

  21. Will I be able to contact Family Tree DNA customer service for questions about my DNA Heritage results? faq id: 1601

Family Tree DNA customer service will not answer questions related to DNA Heritage results and 46 STR marker test results as our database is based on Y-DNA12, 25, 37, 67 and 111 standard panels of STR markers. Once a DNA Heritage customer transfers to our database, we will be able to answer questions regarding the markers that are transferred from DNA Heritage or are tested at Family Tree DNA.

You cannot opt-in for your DNA Heritage project members. If there are deceased members, the same rules that applied to your relationship with that test result will continue to apply after this integration. Thus, if you are also the primary manager for the DNA Heritage account, you may transfer results as the account manager but not as the project administrator.
